Get together
Not sure if any are still connected here. Received messages of a get together on May 4 at 5 PM - Place to Pick in Tolar. I will probably not be able to make it due to work, but it would sure be nice to see everyone. We should all try to stay connected. Maybe we need a FB or google+ page.

Facebook and / or Twitter
Wonder if we would all keep up with each other better with a Facebook page or maybe follow each other on Twitter.com Check out facebook and twitter. We could easily set up a class page on Facebook. It is great for quick comments, thoughts, etc. Some of us are on Facebook already. You might want to check out either Norma's or mine. As a bonus your kids and grandkids will think you are really tech savy for a fossil. And, it is fun.

The Legend of Cliff Young
I don't know about the rest of you, but I seem to find these kind of stories more inspiring as I get older. Or to look at it another way, we have 3 years to train.

Who was President?
I have a good friend who is somewhat of a history buff. As often as he can work it into conversation, he will survey all present with the question. "Who was President of the US the year you were born?" If you can't immediately recall, you are in the majority (my unscientific observation from witnessing this many times).

Bike Ride
Since some of you know about my upcoming bike ride, you might be interested in reading and seeing pictures from the ride. The ride begins Sunday. My observations, comments, pictures etc will be at
www.pulltight.blogspot.com
or just click pulltight under links of interest on right side of blog
I will probably post daily starting Sat or Sun. My plan is to do all posting (pictures and comments) via cell phone. Recently a teenager wrote an entire best selling novel using her thumbs on her cell phone while commuting to school. Hopefully I am technologically advanced enough to send a couple of pictures and a sentence or two of comments.

The Heart Scan Blog : Tribute to Tim Russert
This is something I read on a regular basis. If you read also, you may become at least skeptical of the way we treat heart disease and the state of health care. We get to like and trust our physicians, but we are probably not getting the best care. Tim Russert was born the same year as us and probably recieved conventional treatment. As a physician recently told me "All my patients think they are going to die from liver cancer, breast cancer, etc., but they are all wrong. They are all are going to die from heart disease which could be prevented or postponed"

high school scars and memories
Thankfully he is going to be ok and I guess it could have been worse than the cut he suffered. I can look at the bullet hole in my leg and the ice pick scar in my right hand and remember some stupid things I had happen to me as we all can look back on, it is amazing we ever made it to adulthood. Unintentional Reminders of Youth
I received a call a couple of weeks ago that my 17 year old son was in the ER after sticking his hand through the windshield of a car. And, that I needed to go sign a release for him to be treated.
Two weeks before the end of school he was horsing around with some friends. He jumped on the hood of an old Crown Vic as the driver (a friend) gunned the car. His hand went through the windshield half way to the elbow. He received 13 stitches in the palm of his hand but no permanent damage and probably a pretty minor scar, but something that will remind him forever of high school days. And, maybe he will be a little more careful in the future
I got to thinking about some of my own childhood, teenage, young adult mishaps. I wonder how many of you have little scars, slightly crooked fingers, bad back, trick knees, etc. that remind you of younger years. I have a finger that occasionally gets knocked out of joint and I can’t wear a wrist watch with a metal band (because of a slightly dislocated wrist that wasn’t diagnosed until I was 30 years old) and a thumb that has almost no feeling on one side. All of these are from minor injuries received during high school and college years. I bet most of you have similar little reminders of times gone by.
As our memories of younger times fade, it some of these we remember most clearly.

Photos
If anyone has old photos you would like to post to this site, there are a couple of easy ways.
Join as a contributor and post directly. There are many ways to do this, but here is what I do and it is pretty easy. I first load to photos to Picasa, the free photo site by Google and then there is an option to post to blog.
Or, if you would like to send to me in any form (electronic, negative, actual picture, pdf, etc), I can post for you.
It would be great to post some old high school photos, shots from previous reunions, etc.

As old as you think
You can't judge an apple by looking at a tree,
You can't judge honey by looking at the bee,
You can't judge a daughter by looking at the mother,
You can't judge a book by looking at the cover.
Lyrics of You can't judge a book by looking at the cover. Written by Willie Dixon and sung by Bo Diddley 1962
It is funny how your perception of age changes as you get older. We can all remember a few folks we thought were almost ancient when we were kids or teenagers. Then, not that many years later when we reached that same age, it seemed remarkably young. If you think for a minute I bet you will come up with a few examples. Has it occurred to any of you that within 11 or 12 quick years, we will be 70.
Must be thinking about this because of Bo Diddley’s death today. Don’t know if any of you got to see him perform (or were even fans), but he was quite a showman. In about 1970 or 1971, I saw him as the warm up band for Creedence Clearwater Revival. In my opinion, he stole the show. There was this old man, I remember thinking, strutting, dancing and jumping all over the stage as he played his guitar. He was 79 when he died today. This would make him about 40 when I saw him. My perceptions have certainly changed.

School Days
This was written after Mrs. Coleman's retirement and orginally posted on my Pulltight blog. Since we have a site for our class, it seemed appropriate to repost here.

School Days
One of my high school teachers, Mrs. C. retired a couple of weeks ago after 44 years of teaching. By my estimation, she must have taught around 1,200 students during that time. She was the business teacher and because the school was small, all students in my day took her classes. We learned our original keyboarding skills on full size manual typewriters. None of us could have predicted that 25 years later, keyboarding skills, would become such a valuable skill for everyday life in the computer age.
There was a reception of sorts at the high school after school one day last week, which was attended by probably over 100 students. Mrs. C. had been my class’s sponsor, advisor and homeroom teacher for several years so our class was particularly close to her. 8 of the 13 students I graduated with were at the reception. Because the school was so small, we obviously knew students well from many other grades and it was fun to see them.
We are not all the same age and state of health anymore. While a few are defying the years, many of us are not doing as well. I left the reception and resolved to improve my diet, exercise more and get a medical check up. So it’s no French fries (or at least not biggie size). I am back on a bicycle a few times a week. And I guess it is time for the dreaded colon exam I keep postponing.

Bull Nettle Flower
I spent time outside this weekend, on the family farm and a couple of bike rides. My favorite wild flowers may be the prickly pear flower and the bull nettle flower which are both blooming now. If I were to write sonnets, the maidens would have skin as white and soft as the bull nettle flower. One of the common names for the bull nettle is Mala Mujer which translates to evil woman. Perhaps I should write that sonnet, the pretty flower on the stinging plant named after an evil woman……

Themes Songs and Earworms
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Born to be Wild, Stephenwolf 1968
If our class had a theme song in 1968, would this would have been it? Anyone have any nominees? There was some great music from ~1968. Sometimes I wonder if any of it had any long lasting influences on us. Probably not, except for some of the lyrics that get stuck in you head sometime. Anyone ever have What a Day for a Daydream going off in there head for a few days or weeks? The modern term is earworm.

40!!!!
Hopefully this blog will keep us in closer touch than we were for the past 40 years. As soon as we have your email address this will be set up for posting from you. You can comment as you like in response to other posts. Feel free to post whatever you like, old pictures, your political views or links to your business, web site, blog, favorite web site, etc. Use your imagination, we will all be entertained. What better to epitomize the class of '68 than Warren in his letter jacket.
